Case Study: DMS Cover Glass Mass Production for European New Energy Vehicle Tier1
Project Overview
A leading European automotive Tier 1 supplier needed custom optical cover glass for the DMS camera module of a new battery electric vehicle platform. The component must support stable NIR imaging inside vehicle cabins, resist temperature cycling, dust, fingerprint contamination and mechanical abrasion. The customer required both prototype validation and large-volume serial production within a tight timeline.
Project Challenges
- Stray light suppression: Precise black shading silk printing was required to avoid optical flare and ghost images for the 940nm NIR camera.
- Harsh environment reliability: The glass must pass automotive-grade thermal shock, damp heat and scratch resistance tests.
- Ultra-clean surface: No micro-particles or surface defects that affect image quality.
- Short lead time: Fast sampling phase followed by ramp-up to mass production.
Felix Glass Solution
Felix Glass selected high-strength aluminosilicate glass substrate. Our team implemented CNC precision edge polishing, controlled black mask screen printing, followed by AR coating optimized for 940nm near-infrared wavelength plus AF anti-fingerprint coating. All finishing processes were completed inside our Class100 cleanroom.
We conducted full batch reliability testing, including thermal cycling, humidity ageing and surface defect inspection before shipment. We completed prototype validation in 3 weeks and smoothly transitioned into stable mass production.
Project Results
- The finished DMS cover glass meets the customer’s optical performance and automotive reliability requirements.
- Consistent low surface particle level, eliminating image noise for in-cabin monitoring.
- Stable mass delivery schedule supporting the Tier1’s vehicle project timeline.
Felix Glass provides custom optical glass for global automotive Tier1 clients for DMS, OMS and ADAS optical components. If you have an upcoming in-cabin camera glass project, send your specifications to our team for a technical review and quotation.
