LiDAR Protective Optical Dome | 905nm / 1064nm
Low Scatter Polishing | AR & DLC Coating | Laser Sensor Cover

Material & Grade Overview

LiDAR optical dome is a hemispherical protective cover designed for laser transmit and receive channels at 905nm and 1064nm NIR bands. Fused silica is widely used for low scatter, high laser damage threshold and stable NIR transmission. Sapphire is selected for high abrasion resistance, salt spray and harsh outdoor environments. Material substrate does not equal final performance grade. Laser wavelength, divergence requirement, surface scatter spec and coating must be confirmed for accurate quotation.

All LiDAR domes are controlled for low surface scatter to avoid laser signal noise. We can perform transmission and laser damage validation for automotive and industrial LiDAR projects.

Typical Application

  • Automotive solid-state and mechanical scanning LiDAR sensors
  • UAV drone LiDAR, terrain mapping and surveying laser scanners
  • Robot navigation, AGV, industrial distance measurement sensors
  • Outdoor security laser ranging and 3D scanning systems

Coating Selection Guide

Single-band AR coating at 905nm or 1064nm maximizes laser transmission and reduces back-reflection. DLC coating adds scratch, dust and weather resistance for outdoor exposure. Dual-band AR is available if your LiDAR uses both wavelengths. Learn more about optical coating technology.

FAQ Snippets

Fused silica vs sapphire for LiDAR dome?

Fused silica offers low scatter and high laser damage threshold for most LiDAR. Sapphire is harder, better for heavy abrasion, road debris and marine environments.

Why low-scatter polishing is critical for LiDAR dome?

Surface scatter creates stray laser light, raises noise and reduces ranging accuracy. LiDAR domes require tighter scatter control than general imaging domes.

Can you make flat LiDAR windows instead of hemispherical domes?

Yes. We supply both curved LiDAR domes and flat protective windows for 905nm and 1064nm LiDAR sensors, matching your mechanical housing design.
